Clothed with Grace: Denim or Utility?

Denim or Utility?

A few weeks ago I saw this pin and loved the idea of it.  I decided to try to create my own spin, but once I had it together I thought it was cute, but just wasn't sure.  So, I did what any blogger could do, I took pictures with my utility jacket, then swapped it out for my denim jacket and decided to take a look at the pictures to decide which one to wear.  The result: I actually like both!  I wore the utility jacket version last Thursay and plan to wear the denim jacket version soon. I'm also so loving my new shoes from Payless of all places.  They are amazing and were only $8!

Anyone who has been reading my blog for any quantity of time knows I have a fashion M.O.  I buy something I love, then I wear it like crazy.  This winter was all about vests and right now I'm loving this utility jacket.  I was recently criticized by a reader for my "uniform," as she called it, and she also said I didn't know how to dress for my shape. Unfortunately she didn't say this to me directly, instead she shared this in a forum and linked back to me. I then found out through looking at my "traffic sources."

I realize that putting myself out here opens me up for this, and I'm ok with that. We all have the right to our own opinions.  However, this blog represents me and my style and I don't try to pretend to be someone I'm not. So, when I like vests, I wear vests.  When I like big necklaces, I wear big necklaces. You all see what I really wear.  I'm always wanting to provide you with the best content I can, while staying true to myself.  I'm so thankful to each one of you who takes the time to read my blog and support me, and I hope that my fashion M.O. is ok with the rest of  you. : )

Also, I hope you'll link up this Thursday for Niki at Glossy Blonde and I for our Head to Toe Link up featuring your Spring Essentials.  The button is on my sidebar to grab. : )

Here's the outfit with the denim jacket. My belt's a little weird, I didn't know until after the pictures...

  1. I agree, both versions look great! I really need a utility jacket, but I can never seem to find the perfect one :)

  2. Oooh I love both for different reasons! Glad you are planning to wear both...what a remixable skirt and top! The hot pink and olive is such a fun combo!

  3. I never understand why people snark about blog writers like that. If you don't like it, don't read it! It's simple. I found your blog a few months ago and I enjoy your posts!

  4. I love love love the pop of pink (doesn't every outfit need one?) Sending prayers your way, hurtful words are never fun. I read a quote recently that said "people aren't against you, they are for themselves." I try to remember this when unkind words are said. Keep on being you!

  5. Both look great! I love your M.O. because most of us can't afford thousands of different pieces and have to dress a certain way for work.

  6. Ginny, thank you for being an honest fashion blogger who stays true to herself. Keep dressing the way YOU want to, and not the way that society (or any critic) thinks you should dress. You've got a great and unique style, so keep on owning it!

  9. I'm so sorry that someone was so mean to you. It bothers me that I hear this more and more. What's it to them how you dress??? It's none of their business. How does your blog affect them? It's hard. I love your style and I love that your blog is real. It shows how you can dress fashionably without breaking the bank.I love you don't have a new outfit every day. That you show how you can mix and match your clothes and make the most of your wardrobe. I too go through my phases of wearing a certain piece but so what??

Anyways I just wanted to send you some love and know that at least I appreciate your style and I'm sure there are many others out there as well.

    I love both versions.

  10. The pink with denim is cute because I think it lets the pink really shine. With the cargo jacket it has an entire look. I love them both. Blog about what you love, not what makes others happy!

  11. Both of the jackets look great! I am partial to the denim jacket but you look great! Those leopard shoes are amazing! Ordered them on sale!

  12. I have to vote for the denim jacket! But then again, I would probably always vote for denim over utility. Olive is a color I can't figure out how to wear, so I always prefer something else!

  14. I really like the outfit both ways, too! And although I try to dress for my shape, sometimes I just say to hell with it all, I want to wear what I like. I think you always look cute and put together. And I love that you don't follow every. single. trend. Keep on staying true to yourself! :)

  15. I absolutely love that you dress for YOU and not everyone else..wear what you love. I love that you blog about outfits you actually wear and you purchase items that are in a great price range (sure, $800 shoes are pretty but unrealistic...that $400 sweater that is dry clean only is also pretty but not functional). Keep doing what you do best...your true readers really appreciate it!!

  20. I love both of these looks! I am on a big olive + pink kick these days, so the second outfit definitely fits into that obsession. Now if only I had a pink skirt...
