Building a Wardrobe: Spring and Summer Skirt Essentials

Today I'll be continuing my Building a Wardrobe Series: Spring and Summer Edition. On the first day I discussed layering essentials, next I discussed pants and shorts, then dressesshirtsshoes and accessories, and lastly I'll share skirt essentials today. I love a good skirt and this Spring and Summer there are a few skirts I think are essential to add to your wardrobe.

  • First I suggest a great print. Pick a print with coordinating colors to the rest of your wardrobe and tops, but a print is great because with the varying colors it will be very versatile.
  • Next I suggest a white skirt, I love white bottoms and they can instantly add a chic-ness to any outfit.
  • I also think getting a maxi skirt or dress is great too. I love the ease of them and they are definitely perfect for the warmer months.
  • Forth I recommend a more casual skirt in a stripe or print.  These can be great for weekend get-togethers and brunches when you want to dress up a bit, but don't want to put on a pencil skirt.
  • Lastly I recommend a great bright colored skirt.  Either a solid or an eyelet like the one below.

Today I'm wearing a spring essential: a bright skirt.  I found this skirt last summer at Target and waited until it went on sale to snatch it up.  Turns out it was a pretty good idea because J.Crew Factory is selling similar one' but price isn't nearly as good as Target.  The inspiration for today's look comes from Lisa at Respect the Shoes.  She has a similar blazer and I literally ogled over it every time she wore it.  Then when Loft came out with a  similar one, I was excited to scoop it up.  I love it with this bold skirt here.

  1. Cute look! I like the J.Crew skirts but much rather a Target price tag =) so I'm hoping they'll have similar skirts again this year.

  2. I've been trying to build-up my skirt wardrobe lately. I used to wear skirts ALL THE TIME but a few years ago I just stopped. I, for some reason, couldn't figure out what tops to put with skirts anymore. I know that seems silly. Anyway, now that I'm actively looking for skirts, I have a hard time finding ones that I like. Where is your go-to place to buy skirts?

  4. This is my favorite on this series so far.I agree with your suggestions and need to add a bright eyelet pencil skirt myself, like in Coral or Turquoise. I am loving the Striped Maxi too. Hmmm, I need one of those as well? LOL

I would suggest a Light-colored Full Midi Skirt, a Bright-Colored Pencil Skirt like Red or Cobalt because I think any of these 2 colors would seriously go with everything and last but not least a Floral Pencil Skirt - i just added one to my closet.

I really like your look and that skirt. I do like the elastic skirts like that by J.Crew but I agree with Inge - I am all for the affordable Target versions. I am sure they will make new ones this year. =)

  11. Love that blazer, tried it on at Loft and sadly the boxiness of it did nothing for my shape! :(
