White Denim Jacket

One thing I've had on my wish list for the summer was a white denim jacket.  I've seen them everywhere, but never in my size, XS? I don't think so.  So, I was excited when my local Target was restocked and I was able to snag this one up. Here's the problem though, I was with Grant so I just grabbed the medium, assuming it would fit.  I got it home, tried it on, and decided to do what anyone with a camera could do, I took pictures.  Here's what I found:

I did not at all like the way the medium looked in the pictures.  I had a feeling it was too big when I tried it on, but was worried the small would be too small. I'd also had such a hard time finding this one in the first place I wasn't thinking I'd get lucky finding a small.  I also left my shirt untucked and felt like that just added to this outfit making me look very top heavy.

I ended up going back to Target (without Grant) and to my surprise they had a small left!  I tried it and it was much better.  The jacket is Merona, so I'm kind of surprised it runs big, I'm almost always a medium in this brand.  I also decided to tuck this shirt in and am happy to see that it really helped to define my waist and take away the appearance of me being so top heavy.

Also, I forgot to put on bracelets until after pictures, and didn't want to retake, so there's one close with bracelets I took after the fact. I wore this outfit to book club and loved how put together I felt, but comfy at the same time.  So, moral of the story, you can't always trust your "size" and the right styling and fit can make all the difference in your final look.

  1. It amazes me how inconsistent sizing is...that is what is so frustrating about online shopping! I think you made the right choice going with the smaller size, love the fit on you!

  4. Love your new white denim jacket. I have one but mine is more of a bomber style. Love your classic one. Those bracelets are perfect with that top and shorts too. As far as sizing, I never trust them much. Better to always try stuff on. That's why I rarely shop online.

  5. This jacket looks great! I have found that I randomly have to go out of my almost-always size medium too. Here the small really works for you. Love the color combination of this look too.

  6. I love the jacket! Sizing can be so off sometimes, it's irritating. Glad you were able to go back and find one that fits because it's so cute and will be very versatile!

  7. The jacket looks great on you Ginny. I agree with Ada, it's tough to trust sizing. I find that J Crew is pretty true to their sizing.

  10. I agree, it's so crazy how different sizes are, not only brand to brand but in the same brand too! They should just make sizing universal and be done with it. I love the jacket! It will be perfect for summer!

  14. You truly are a pro at pattern mixing. It's pretty crazy what a difference changing the size can make. And, that is weird. Merona is typically pretty consistent. Then again, I find jean jackets very difficult to buy. They almost always fit oddly. It's like magic when you find one that fits; I think it was sartorial fate in this instance for you :)
