Dark Places

Last fall I had a friend share Gone Girl with me, and I was introduced and sucked in to the dark writing style of Gillian Flynn. Since then, Dark Places has been on my must-read list. I had this book and another one on request at the library and they both came up available at the same time. I asked on Instagram about which one I should read first and time and time again people said Dark Places.

I jumped in and although it definitely had the same dark style as Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn is definitely not a one trip pony. In Dark Places we are introduced to Libby Day, the lone survivor of a brutal attack on her family that her brother is serving a life-sentence for killing. But did he do it?

Gillian Flynn hauntingly and sometimes graphically tells the story of this nightmarish murder of Libby's family from the point of view of Libby, her brother Ben, and her mother Patty, going back and forth from the events on the day of the murder to Libby in present time.

Everyone said I wouldn't be able to put it down, and they were right. It was a true page-turner that did not disappoint. I will say, just like Gone Girl, parts were graphic and disturbing, so if that isn't something you like to read, I wouldn't recommend this book. However, if you'd like to see a fictional looking into the very best and very worst of mankind, I think this is a book you will love, I know I did!

  1. I saw the movie previews this weekend for this movie starring Charlize Theron. I'm not sure if the movie made it to the big screen, maybe it's on Netflix?

  5. I read this and loved it (as I loved Gone Girl)! I actually just started Gillian Flynn's other book, Sharp Objects, last night! There was a creepy part and I had read it right before bed...and then there was a noise in our living room in the middle of the night and my fiance just had to say it sounded like someone had been in there. So anyway, I'm LOVING the book...but I think I'm done reading it right before bed. :)
