Clothed with Grace: Things I Learned When I Stopped Fashion Blogging

Things I Learned When I Stopped Fashion Blogging

1. Getting dressed doesn't need to be a production. It's ok to just grab clothes and go. For a number of years I spent time planning outfits each week-that no longer happens. I also used to make myself wear outfits because they'd be on the blog-even if I didn't feel like it. Ridiculous. If I don't want to wear something, I don't. Since August I've given away or sold probably close to a hundred things and I'm not exaggerating.

2. There is nothing wrong with repeating outfits. Somehow I got in my head that I needed to wear new mixes of my clothes all the time and that repeating outfits was boring. Dumb. If I feel good in something and like the outfit, I'll wear it the same way over and over again.

3. "Free" came with a price tag. Over the years I got a lot of things for "free" many of them I have loved and worn or used like crazy, but time was spent in creating the posts and sharing them on social media They weren't really free. I also had a company that let me pick out new things pretty much every week. I loved getting new "free" things in the mail each week, but many of the pieces were only worn once, didn't fit well, etc. If I don't love something, I'm not wearing it and you better believe a lot of these pieces have been given away.

4. Quality over quantity. Just like I said above, if I don't love it, it's not worth keeping or buying. I would rather buy fewer nice clothes to wear often, than have more less expensive clothes that are worn rarely.

5.  Getting dressed shouldn't be the highlight of your day-clothes are simply what you wear when the highlights happen.  I'll admit, there were times I went on random errands with Grant so I could wear some me cute outfit I'd planned. So silly. Now, I happily wear my #momiform most weekends: tee, cardigans, leggings and boots.

Maybe I'll decide to share an outfit or two again down the road, but I'm pretty glad to not be doing it now. :)

  1. I know what you mean Ginny! I've reached the point in my life that comfort comes first with my outfits with cuteness being a very close 2nd! :) I also find myself wearing the same few outfits over and over. I do enjoy seeing your outfit posts, but I can understand that it's a lot of trouble. I believe very much in the saying that "clothes don't make a person." Hey, if it ain't broke don't fix it! LOL

  2. Its been so interesting to see your progression with this. Thanks for letting us be a part of it. I have definitely gone through my phases of pulling up Pinterest on my phone while sifting through my closet and recreating it. It can be fun, but it can also be exhausting and putting pressure on myself. Nothing wrong with it until it becomes a time sucker or comparison trap. God is working through you, girl! He will bless your growth.

    1. I completely agree, it can be fun but shouldn't take priority. Thanks so much for your kind words!

  3. I love to peak behind the curtain! I can't imagine having to find the time to take pictures of everything I wore or do a flat lay or take selfies! I do enjoy reading the posts and seeing the pictures though and really appreciate the time it must take to blog full time every day. Love the new approach and seeing your progression. Thanks for sticking with it!

  4. Ginny, I am glad that you are happy where you are at. You always had cute outfits, but the fashion thing is not the only thing worth blogging about. You are a busy mom with two kids and a job. You have plenty to keep you busy and keep your brain occupied. Whatever you have time to post will be good, cute outfits or kid photos or just beautiful words! - Amy

  5. Hi Ginny, I have followed your blog for off and on for awhile. I originally found it through " what I wore Wednesday" I used to love to look at fashion bloggers to get ideas. I quickly got overwhelmed though! Who are these people with seemingly unlimited incomes? New clothes everyday! Perfect hair , makeup ,and a gazillion poses against perfect backgrounds! As someone who is prone to comparison I definitely got caught up in it. I always liked your blog though. As a fellow Midwesterner with 2 kids ( boy and girl :-) I felt like your style was relatable to me. I also have enjoyed your book reviews and pieces on your faith. I have pretty much stopped looking at fashion blogs. I just wanted you to know I have enjoyed your blog and I definitely feel like God is working through you. Annie

    1. Yes, I've wondered the same thing as I've look d at professional blogs. They've made it a job and career, comparing ourselves to that always sets us up for failure. Thanks for your kind words and for reading!
