Why I'm Not Promoting #NSale

Ok, so let me begin by saying I actually love Nordstrom. Seriously, their shoe department is top notch, they have free shipping and returns, and the people that work their are lovely. I'm not promoting or shopping this sale for other reasons which I felt like I should share today.

First off, it is July. July people. I honestly want nothing to do with fall clothes, I don't want to think about them, talk about them, or try them on. Fall clothes means school is in session and that my sandals are stored for the year. I like fall clothes....once it's fall.

Secondly, I don't want to cave into peer pressure. All I see all over the internet is blogger after blogger sharing their #NSale reviews.  It hadn't occurred to me to do this before, so it's no longer an original idea, so I don't plan to do it now.

Next, I don't run my blog as a business. Not that there is anything wrong with that, I just already have a job, and this blog remains my hobby. I can imagine many bloggers make some big bucks with their links to products this time of year, but like I stated before, I don't really want to even think of fall clothes, so there you have it.

Lastly, and probably the biggest reason, I need more clothes like a hole in the head. Seriously. I feel like social media has us always thirsting for more. Buy, buy, buy. I literally just went though my closet and pulled out at least thirty things I haven't worn in at least a year to take to a resale shop, none of which I will miss. This summer I did get a few tops from Old Navy to freshen up my summer wardrobe since I was pregnant this time last year, but I'm putting on the brakes with shopping this fall.

I recently had a girl email me to remove her from my newsletter list as "I didn't wear clothes she could still buy and she could care less to see pictures of my kid." Ok, then.... Although I was a bit offended by her email (there is an unsubscribe button at the bottom of my newsletter she should could have clicked, by the way), she hit the nail on the head. I don't have a lot of new clothes to show, and I like to show pictures of my kids.

I still like blogging, don't get me wrong, but the #NSale onslaught right now really solidifies for me how different I am from how I was a few years back. I don't need to "buy all the things," and I don't need to try to impress anyone else, which used to be a huge issue for me. Clothes are something I wear, not who I am.

Maybe you need to hear this too....fashion is fun but "buying all the things" will never make us feel whole. For me, my faith and my family are so much more important, and there were definitely a few years in there when fashion was taking the front seat, which was pretty foolish in my opinion.

Thank you to all who read my posts....I love to write them. Thanks for sticking around even though I'm not showing new clothes all the time, I'm sharing my faith, and I definitely share a lot pictures of my kids. ; )

  2. Totally agree! I love when bloggers are challenged to shop their closet and wear clothes that they already have in new ways. I feel like people need to work on wearing all the clothes they have instead of constantly adding. I enjoy photo feeds more without constant new clothes actually :)

  3. This is amazing! I am glad you did not post about the Nordstrom sale and that you wear 'old' clothes. I am on a mission to shop less and remix what I have. Have you read Greater than Rubies posts about not shopping for a year? I am inspired by her. I am also doing a no shop August challenge on ig if you want to join in.

  4. THANK YOU! I've felt like the only one I know who WASN'T shopping the NAS...and I'm fine with that! Nothing's jumped out at me and, like you, I do NOT need more clothes! (The fact that it was 107 here yesterday leaves me with NO desire to look at Fall things, much less try anything on!)

    1. Right? It's too hot to think about sweaters!

  5. I couldn't agree with you more!!!! I haven't bought anything from NAS because I don't need anything and what I have wanted is not from Nordstrom. The idea of having to buy something because it's on sale boggles my mind!!!!! There's one blogger that I follow and she's extremely popular and i swear i have never seen her wear anything twice on her blog. It's insane and the amount of Valentino shoes she has is ridiculous. Buying things for the sake of just buying them is insane. Thank you for your honesty.

    1. I've always wondered about people that don't seem to repeat clothes. Do they return them or are their clicks so high the clothes pays for themselves?

  6. Such a great post! When I started IG I felt like I had to buy it all because I loved everyone's posts. I was buyin way too much and certainly things I didn't really need just because everyone was talking about them. Someone asked where my shirt was from the other day and came off kind of annoyed it was from last year. For me now, it's about remixing what I love, buying pieces intentionally because it fills a hole in my closet in a way that fits my ideal wardrobe. I love you for keepin it real and I hope more do the same.

    1. Yes to shopping intentionally and to filling closet holes, I think that's the way to go for sure!

  7. Awesome post! I think most of your readers are collectively nodding their heads right now. I as well don't want to even think about Fall clothes until mid October. It will just be way too warm to wear them until then. I'm sorry you had to hear from an annoyed reader. It's sad because clearly, clothes are all she has. You have much fuller life. Thank you for posting pics in "old clothes"! I like to see what you are wearing just for inspiration. Keep up the great work!

  8. Most of my favorite posts are of your family, recent book reviews, and those when you share your faith. I have never been one to keep up with fashion trends and have just in the past couple years started following fashion and beauty bloggers, and I am so surprised at how often some people shop. Not that it's bad. It's one of those things you just assume everyone is like you until you find out they aren't :) anyway, I love your blog and want to encourage you to do whatever you feel is true to yourself.

    1. Thanks so much! I'm the same way, I follow people because I like them, not for what they wear. So glad to have you as a social media buddy :)

  9. Bravo Ginny! I applaud you for sharing this with your readers. It certainly hits home with me. I definitely got into the buying frenzy, sometimes buying things I didn't really love, but bought anyway because bloggers were saying it was a "must have" and "on trend". Thankfully I got over that. I realized I wasn't being true to who I really was. I've been thinking recently about unsubscribing to some bloggers I follow because they've just changed SO much. One started off posting cute outfits that were affordable, but now posts things like a plain t-shirt for $50+ and only premium jeans costing more than $100. Another blogger admitted that it may seem like she has a lot of clothes but she really doesn't. She said she keeps the tags on, takes photos for the blog, then returns them. Really?! I guess if blogging is your job there must be a lot of pressure to show "new" outfits daily. I just cannot relate to them any more. Kudos to you for not jumping on the Nordstrom's Sale bandwagon. I've had more than my fill from other bloggers. Keep doing what you're doing Ginny! I always look forward to your posts both on fashion and family.

    1. It's like Rocksbox and those monthly clothing boxes. I do not like the idea of wearing but not keeping. a. I'd get too attached and b. Wearing something than returning it seems a bit unfair to the next person who buys it. Buy with a purpose makes more sense to me :)

  10. Great points! I don't shop at Nordstrom very much, so all of the posts were pretty overwhelming for me!

  11. I totally agree, and I love your outfits, your posts and looking at the pictures of your beautiful kids make me happy, so keep going! ☺️

  12. Good for you for being who you are. There is a place for everyone to blog in their niche. I really can't afford nearly anything at Nordstrom and have had to just skip some of the blogs I normally follow as not to feed the comparison beast I struggle with. My issue not the bloggers. I think your family is precious and your shared wisdom is crazy applicable. Keep up being you because I love it! I like to see how you put outfits together with what you have. I suspect that's what most of us do. It's gotten so I can basically tell if a person follows certain blogs seeing their outfit around town! Nothing wrong with that but I mind myself moving away and trying to do my own thing. Be encouraged, Ginny! I love your blog!

  13. I enjoy reading your blog so keep doing your thing. I like the mix of faith, fashion and family! I do enjoy seeing your outfit posts but use them as inspiration not necessarily to buy what you are wearing, although I love knowing where they came from or if they are still available. Thanks for sharing!

  14. Well said! Frankly, I am tired of hearing about the sale. Nordstrom is,a great store, but not a place I can afford to shop regularly. I appreciate your clothing posts, because I am a teacher, too, and your posts give me ideas about how to stretch what I have. I agree wholeheartedly with your entire post! Thank you for staying true to yourself! I love seeing the pictures of your children...it reminds me of mine when they were that age. Keep up the great work in your hobby!

  15. Thank you for sharing this Ginny!! You are so right, and as women we are constantly comparing and wanting what others have. I too have struggled with comparison and just need to be reminded that we are all special women, created uniquely. Keep the blog going and I so look forward to the pictures of your kids, especially that sweethannaelizabeth.

  16. Thanks Ginny! I love your blog! I feel like I have someone relatable when I read your posts. I'm a teacher too we shop in similar places. You give me some new ideas on how to freshen up things I own. I also love your book reviews because I love to read! Your post on being a mom and your kids are awesome! I feel those same feelings you have about family and your job! Thanks for staying true to you! Keep up the posts and being awesome!

  17. I'm not promoting the nordstrom sale either, there are just too many other posts out there, and I get sick of it before it even starts! Your blog content needs to make you happy, first and foremost. If other people love what you love and want to come along, those are the readers you want anyway.

    1. You're exactly right! So many bloggers try to copy someone else's route to success and lose themselves along the way.

  18. I love this! I'm so glad to hear it too; that's why I continue to follow you, I love your priorities - and your fashion choices. I don't set out to copy a blogger's wardrobe, just to be inspired for other ways to wear mine! Thanks!

  19. I love that you're not! I actually skipped IG and a few other blogs because it was too much of the same stuff over and over again.
Thanks for keeping it real! I've been 'shopping' my own close this summer!

  20. I just received this post in your newsletter, so I missed it on Friday. There are a lot of cookie cutter blogs out there that post the same, exact thing a lot. I used to be one of them, and I had to remind myself that blogging isn't my job. I applaud you for posting your faith and family. Blogging is fun, meeting new people through blogging is fun, but it's still a hobby in the end. On a side note: I can't afford Nordstrom on my teacher salary and am more cost conscience. I do enjoy the fashion you post and usually go looking for it or something similar if what you are wearing isn't available. Keep doing what you're doing for you.

  21. Thank you for being honest and genuine. About half of the blogs I read were promoting "the big sale". I don't have anything against them doing this. There was VERY little I liked that was being promoted within my price range.

    1. Right? There are a lot of big ticket items that are $100 off...but that still makes them $300, not so much my price range 😏

  22. I love the pictures of your kids! I like more personal content because I feel like I get to know you better. And your book reviews! I read almost all of the books you recommend. I surely don't have time, money, or energy to constantly be shopping for new clothes (I have three kids ages 5 and under.) Keep being you!
