I was recently reading my daily devotion on She Reads Truth and was reminded of what God requires of those who follow him. "To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8. The reality is, often times I can look just like this: a hot mess, completely unaware, with a smile on my face.
Often times I think I know best and seek the independence to do it my way in my time. Similarly to Hannah at meals right now. I keep trying to sit her down to eat with us, as she can eat mostly what we eat, but she has other plans. She uses her ridiculously strong legs to push her chair back, sometimes tipping it and giving me a heart attack. Plates aren't her thing, and every time I try one it ends up on the floor. What she liked yesterday, she no longer likes today, with the exception of yogurt, which she'd eat all day long, preferably on her own, with two spoons. The end looks like this, but she's pleased as punch. The best laid plans, right?
I know what meal times should look like, and if she'd just listen to me, she wouldn't be such a hot mess. The same is true with my relationship with God, if I just listened to him, my days would go more smoothly too. This is what God tells us though:
Whether it's a day, a week, a year or a decade away, God is gracious and merciful to forgive us and His love abounds! I'm really working to stop in the midst of my day, before I end up with a face metaphorically covered in yogurt to listen and talk to God-to return to Him. It's not always easy, but man, life sure goes more smoothly when I listen to the One who knows best!
Ginny! So glad you popped in with this encouragement- it was exactly what I needed to hear this morning as I've been having some yogurt-covered-face days! Thank you!
