Keeping "Small" Things "Small

Those of you who read my blog on a regular basis have heard before that I usually set aside an hour or so on Saturday mornings to take my blog pictures for the week. The stars need to align perfectly for the pictures to happen. The light needs to be good (either overcast or a soft shadow), the weather needs to be good (no wind, rain, etc), and I need to be having a good hair day. I know it sounds ridiculous, but if I don't like my hair in the pictures, I don't like the pictures.

This last Saturday it started to rain just as I began to take the pictures for yesterday's post. So, it was obvious the stars weren't aligning for me. In the past this has happened and I have spend way too much time trying to take pictures that have turned out horribly, or rearranged my schedule to try to take them at another time. Definitely not a good use of my time. Then I looked at the outfit I had planned to take pictures in and thought, "Haven't I worn that on the blog before? Yes, yes, I have." So, the pictures below are actually from my archives. I did actually wear this same outfit to church on Sunday, but the pictures are from last summer.

Sometimes we can have a tendency to blow things out of proportion. But I think it's important to keep the small things, small. There are a lot more important things to worry about then me not being able to take pictures for my blog, which is a hobby. I actually had a reader email and ask why I didn't share new posts daily. I laughed out loud when I read it. This is a hobby, not a full time job, and it definitely shouldn't cause me to put more important things in my life in the backseat.

  2. It's easy to lose sight of the fact that blogging is a hobby for most of us. Thanks for the reminder! I love that dress on you, the color is just gorgeous!

  3. Amen... I had to take a step back and realize that blogging is not my full time job, but a hobby. A hobby that I will continue to enjoy on my time. I think sometimes we push ourselves to keep up with other bloggers who post regularly. However I realize I began comparing myself to others and that is unhealthy for me. Beautiful dress, lovely color, the necklace is the perfect accessory. Looking forward to you sharing more of your hobby :)

  6. Indeed, dear! There have been weeks I haven't been able to take outfit shots on the weekend, and I just have to let it go! Blogging is fun, but it's just a hobby for me, too!

  8. That is a great necklace. I take my photos when I get a chance. If the light isn't right for an outfit I just shrug it off.

  9. You're so right! It's easy to forget that this is just a hobby. The past few nights, I've been trying to get a post done, but have traded it for going to sleep. And I'm a lot happier for it;) Hope you have a great weekend and that Saturday is better weather:)

  11. You look amazing! I have been trying to keep up with blogging too and always feel like I have to take a few days off because I start to feel like I'm trying too hard to arrange my schedule around it. The other day I forgot to charge my camera but I really wanted to take photos...so crappy Iphone photos it was. It does help to look at things in prospective though.
